Create a healthy work / life balance
Stephen Covey, author of “The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People,” said, “The challenge of work-life balance is without question one of the most significant struggles faced by modern man.” There are times in a career or life that one must “lean into,” struggle with or persevere through a challenge or opportunity in a specific area of life and lose a sense of balance. Examples could include building a business/career, climbing the corporate ladder, managing overwhelming business success, having and raising kids, seeking post-graduate degrees while working full-time, and divorce. As a result, time and energy become consumed, and other significant areas of life take a back seat, possibly resulting in damaged relationships, health issues, burnout and a lack of fulfillment or joy.
Coaching can help you identify and understand the imbalance in your life, deal with resulting stresses or issues created and eliminate the roadblocks that stand in the way of finding a healthy balance again. In addition, it can assist in discovering the motivation and courage to set healthy boundaries while creating goals and taking action to regain control.
Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling five balls in the air. You name them: work, family, health, friends and spirit, and you’re keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged, or even shattered. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life. — Brian Dyson, former CEO of Coca Cola
